Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm Games both made waves with the announcement of a variety of Star Wars video game projects, one of which was from Respawn Entertainment. EA was the original studio that could create games for the blockbuster franchise. Lucasfilm now offers this opportunity to other studios. Eight Star Wars games are currently in development.

They will not all be released in this year’s release. Some of these games are still being developed. Here’s a current list of the Star Wars games in development right now.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star WarsThe Skywaker Saga will be launched on April 5. It’s a LEGO-based story that retells all the film franchises. Players can expect a classic family-friendly, fun-filled adventure mixed with TT Games’ signature humor. As you progress through Skywalker’s movie series, you can unlock hundreds more characters and visit multiple worlds. LEGO Star WarsSkywalker Saga will soon be available on Xbox, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac.

Star Wars: Hunters

Star Wars: Hunters can also be downloaded for free on mobile devices and the Nintendo Switch. This third-person combat game lets players match and mix Hunters and take part in high-stakes contests at The Arena.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is currently in development at Respawn — the same studio behind the original game — with Stig Asmussen returning as game director. The original Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released in 2019 and restored some fan faith in EA’s ability to handle the Star Wars franchise. Lucasfilm eventually allowed other studios access to the Star Wars franchise. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order delivered solid single-player action, and there are high expectations that the sequel will live up to its predecessor.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

BioWare’s critically acclaimed Star Wars RPG, Knights of the Old Republic, is being remade by Aspyr Media, the developer behind recent ports of Republic Commando and Jedi Academy. Aspyr Media is currently working on the KOTOR remake. “completely rebuilt from the ground up”Next-generation consoles and PC. It was only announced for PS5 and PC, although it was later confirmed as a console exclusive at launch, which means it’s probably also coming to Xbox at some point as well.

Star Wars FPS by REspawn

Respawn is currently working on a Star Wars first person shooter with Peter Hirschmann, the game’s director. Hirschmann was previously the LucasArts Vice President of Development and executive producer for the original Battlefront titles.  EA had already released two Battlefront games, the latest being in 2017. We don’t know much about this game right now, but Hirschmann did hint that he’s “always been inspired by the classic Star Wars titles Dark Forces and Dark Forces II.”

Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars

When Lucasfilm Games announced they were opening up the doors to new developers who want to play in the Star Wars sandbox, one of the first games to be announced was Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game. The game is currently in development at Massive Entertainment, the Sweden-based studio behind The Division franchise and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game.

Star Wars Eclipse

Perhaps the most intriguing game in development right now is Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse. The studio behind multiple story-driven titles such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human is working on a new action-adventure set in the High Republic era. The story will feature multiple characters and follow the Quantic Dream structure. Star Wars Eclipse is still in its early stages.

Star Wars strategy game by Bit Reactor & Respawn

EA’s Star Wars III title in development is a strategy game. Bit Reactor is currently working with Respawn to develop the game. Bit Reactor is a studio founded by former Firaxis Games executives who created the critically acclaimed XCOM series. Greg Foerstch serves as the Art Director for XCOM 2 & XCOM 2 : Enemy Unknown. Bit Reactor, the game’s producer, is leading the development.
